Overview of the validation of POAM III version 4 retrievals

چکیده
A statistical analyses of comparisons between POAM III version 4.0 retrievals and measurements from HALOE (version 19) and SAGE II (version 6.2) and ozonesondes have been performed. In addition, when available, limited numbers of comparisons with aircraft-based instruments have been performed. For statistical analyses with correlative satellite data, coincidence criteria were 500 km and 2 hours unless too few coincidences were found, in which case the time criterion was relaxed to 12 hours. Comparisons for NO2, however, included only measurements that occurred within 2 hours to avoid artifacts due to diurnal variations. Coincident measurements for satellite statistical analyses were also required to occur within 3 degrees in equivalent latitude.

SAGE III aerosol extinction validation in the Arctic winter: comparisons with SAGE II and POAM III
The use of SAGE III multiwavelength aerosol extinction coefficient measurements to infer PSC type is contingent on the robustness of both the extinction magnitude and its spectral variation. Past validation with SAGE II and other similar measurements has shown that the SAGE III extinction coefficient measurements are reliable though the comparisons have been greatly weighted toward measurements...
متن کاملAerosol optical depth measurements by airborne sun photometer in SOLVE II: Comparisons to SAGE III, POAM III and airborne spectrometer measurements
The 14-channel NASA Ames Airborne Tracking Sunphotometer (AATS-14) measured solarbeam transmission on the NASA DC-8 during the second SAGE III Ozone Loss and Validation Experiment (SOLVE II). This paper presents AATS-14 results for multiwavelength aerosol optical depth (AOD), including comparisons to results from two satellite sensors and another DC-8 instrument, namely the Stratospheric Aeroso...
متن کاملValidation of the French Version of the “Patterns of Activity Measure” in Patients with Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
Background. The "Patterns of Activity Measure" (POAM-P) is a self-administered questionnaire that assesses "avoidance", "pacing" and "overdoing" activity patterns in chronic pain patients. Objectives. To adapt the POAM-P to French ("POAM-P/F") and test its validity and reliability in Chronic Musculo-Skeletal Pain patients (CMSP). Methods. We followed the recommended procedure for translation of...
متن کامل4D-Var Assimilation of MIPAS chemical observations: ozone and nitrogen dioxide analyses
This paper discusses the global analyses of stratospheric ozone (O 3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) obtained by the Belgian Assimilation System for Chemical Observations from Envisat (BASCOE). Based on a chemistry transport model (CTM) and the 4-dimensional variational (4D-Var) method, BASCOE has assimilated chemical obser-Our analyses are evaluated against assimilated MIPAS data and independent ...
متن کاملArctic ozone loss deduced from POAM III satellite observations and the SLIMCAT chemical transport model
The SLIMCAT three-dimensional chemical transport model (CTM) is used to infer chemical ozone loss from Polar Ozone and Aerosol Measurement (POAM) III observations of stratospheric ozone during the Arctic winter of 2002–2003. Inferring chemical ozone loss from satellite data requires quantifying ozone variations due to dynamical processes. To accomplish this, the SLIMCAT model was run in a “pass...
